Can I make and receive phone calls?
Yes, adolescent patients may make phone calls during specified times through the day and adults may make calls throughout the day outside of time they are in therapy. NOTE: Patients or visitors are not allowed to have cell phones on the unit.
What are the visiting hours, and who is allowed to visit?
Visits from friends and family can be a great benefit for patients at Northlake. Visiting hours vary by unit, so this information will be provided during the admission process or you can call Northlake to determine the unit’s visitation schedule at 985-626-6300.
GENERAL VISITATION INFORMATION:
- A confidential PIN number is issued to each patient at the time of admission. Due to patient confidentiality, only the legal guardian of a minor patient may give out this number. Any visitor calling or coming to the hospital must have the PIN number.
- All visitors will be required to present valid identification prior to visiting with the patient.
- No more than two visitors are allowed at one time.
- Children under the age of 18 may not visit.
What can I expect during a typical day at Northlake?
Northlake Behavioral Health System provides short-term, acute crisis stabilization as well as intensive outpatient care. We use individual and group therapy. All therapeutic services are research based and are best practices for acute psychiatric care. Patients also participate in expressive therapy, which includes creating art projects to discuss feelings, playing games and sports, horticultural therapy, animal-assisted therapy and music/dance therapy. The patients are also provided with enriching special events and holiday celebrations throughout their stay.
If my child enters your program, will he or she be able to keep up with schoolwork during treatment?
There are school sessions available for all patients currently enrolled. Students are encouraged to work on their home school assignments. When consent is authorized, Northlake works with your child’s home school to coordinate their educational lessons and verify that your child’s is participation in our school program.
What kind of insurance does Northlake accept?
We are an authorized provider for most insurance plans and work with nearly a dozen providers. For more information visit our Admissions page.
Does your hospital offer financial assistance?
You may qualify for financial assistance. Please speak with the Business Office for further assistance regarding financial assistance and our Charity Care policy.
